Abstract

1385592 Periscopic rearview mirror system DONNELLY MIRRORS Inc 16 June 1972 [30 July 1971] 28354/72 Heading B7J In a vehicle having a three mirror periscopic rearview system in which light rays from behind the vehicle are received by a third mirror 12 and reflected via a second mirror 22 and first mirror 26 to the driver, the first mirror 26 is adjustably supported to permit bodily movement toward and away from the second mirror 22, such as by a support member 32 attached to a support stamping 34 above the vehicle windscreen and having an aperture 36 receiving a slide 38 which carries the first mirror 26 and can be secured relative to the support member 32. The mirrors are progressively larger from the first 26 to the second 22 to the third 12, and the first mirror 26 can be angularly adjusted at a ball joint 40. In one form of support means for the first mirror 26, mirror 26 is carried via ball joints (58, 60), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), by a T-shaped slide (56) movable in a correspondingly shaped slot (53) in a support member (52) attached to the stamping 34. In another form, the mirror 26 is carried via a ball joint (90), Fig. 5 and 6 (not shown), by a rod (86) slidable in a support member (72) which is attached to the stamping 34 by a ball joint (82). In a further form, Fig. 7, mirror 26 is attached to the stamping 34 by a series of ball joints 102, 106, 108 and 114.
