Abstract

1385401 Damped spring units GES FUER KERNFORSCHUNG mbH 10 July 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 32170/72 Heading F2S A damped spring unit comprises a stack of non-planar spring plates 10 in a liquid/gas foam 9, the pressure (and hence the viscosity) of which is adjustable to vary the damping effect. A pump 6 delivers a control fluid, e.g. compressed air 16, to the interior of a bellows 5 in a chamber 4 containing foam 9 in communication via a pipe 15 with the foam in the vessel 2. The increase in pressure on the foam 9 causes an increase in viscosity. Conversely, if fluid is exhausted from the bellows 5,.and pressure on the foam falls and the viscosity decreases. The spring plates are octagonal and are curved as shown in Specification 1,227,768. They have radial projections 12 which are guided with clearance in grooves 11 in the vessel 2.
