Abstract
1385211 Matrix displays FUJITSU Ltd 24 March 1972 [25 March 1971] 13992/72 Heading G5C A method of operating a gas discharge display/ memory panel comprises applying sustain pulses to X, Y conductors of the panel and applying, between sustain pulses V s , first aconditioning pulse V p to a selected X conductor to cause a discharge and a reversal of the wall charge V Q1 and then a converting pulse V d to a selected Y conductor to cause a discharge and alter the wall charge to V Q2 sufficiently to prevent subsequent said sustain pulses causing a discharge at the intersection of the selected conductors. The method prevents erasure of half selected cells. The sustain pulses on each conductor may be the same when the wall charge is reduced to zero or of different magnitude when the wall charge is altered. The sustain voltage may include another train of pulses which produce a discharge only with the altered wall charge V Q2 , Fig. 13 (not shown). If the sustain pulse trains have a different frequency a change in brightness is produced which may effectively be erasure. The pulses V s , V p V d may be of the same or different height and width. Pulse circuitry including gate circuits, decoders, and address registers is described.
