Abstract

1384739 Capless lamps and sockets therefor GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 27 Sept 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 44633/72 Heading H2E [Also in Division H1] A capless lamp stem has two leads extending therefrom and sealed therein and comprises two opposite parallel faces 20, 21 and two sides 22, 23, with each respective face 20, 21 having an indentation 25, 29 extending from a side 23, 22, a groove 24, 28 extending from the free end 19 of the stem towards the. indentation but terminating short of the indentation in an end wall 26, and a slot 27, 30 aligned with the respective groove 24, 28 in an edge of the indentation. Each lead 15, 16 is folded over a respective face 20, 21 to lie along a groove, over the end wall, across the indentation and to end within the slot. The lamp is adapted to mate with a socket 31 comprising an insulating housing or husk 36 and two contacts 32, 33; notched edges 47 of the contacts seating within depth-tapered slots 45, 46. Each contact is crimped to a mains conductor and comprises two resilient fingers 37, 37<SP>1</SP> and 38, 38<SP>1</SP>. In use fingers 38, 37<SP>1</SP> bear against leads 15, 16 in inden- tations 25, 29 respectively while fingers 38<SP>1</SP>, 37 bear against the stem adjacent and opposite the indentations. Where the leads 15, 16 overlie the end walls 26 they protrude from the planes of the faces 20, 21 and so serve to retain the contacts in the indentations.
