Abstract

1384525 Feeding sheets KALAMAZOO MFG CO 5 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 26786/73 Heading B8K A pile S, Fig. 2A, of panels such as battery plates, rests on plates 33, 33A, Fig. 1, and on a reciprocating shuttle 115 between side guide structures 16, 17, the shuttle having a shoulder for separating the bottom panel by engagement with its edge, and each structure 16, 17 contains means for relieving the pressure of the pile during seals separation by lifting the upper portion of the pile of the lower portion. The pressure relieving means in each structure comprises a pusher member 78 which raises an actuating member 69 having a roller 79 engaging a cam surface 63 of a plate 38 carrying serrated jaw members 39, 41 and pivoted at 46 to allow swinging movement against a spring 59 towards the pile. As the roller 79 raises the jaw member, the latter raises the upper part of the pile, and the weight of the pile acts through the cam surface 63 and roller 79 to swing the jaw member against the pile with a force proportional to the weight, so that a heavier pile is gripped more tightly. A panel being separated passes between flanges 96, 101, Fig. 5, and the gap 102 between the flanges is adjusted by a screw 107 so as to allow only one panel to pass at a time. The structures 16, 17 are pivoted to a frame member 12 at 18, 19 and the distance between the lower ends of the structures is adjusted by screws 118, 119 according to the size of the panels.
