Abstract
1383671 Shearing; making wire FRIEDRICH KOCKS 19 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 2616/72 Headings B3W and B3A Wire rod rolled in a rolling mill is sheared in a cooling section through which the rod is passed, on emerging from the mill, disposed in loops 6 on a conveyer 8, 12, a stationary stopping device 18 upstream of the shear 16 holding the loops fast while the conveyer continues to run to straighten out the wire for the shear to shear it. The wire rolled from an ingot is sufficient to form several coils, the shear being used to crop the front and rear ends and to divide the wire into coil lengths. Measuring rollers 22 actuate a device 24 for marking the shear points which are recognized by a detector 26. The detector, with a delay, actuates the stopping device 18, i.e. it causes two prongs 20 to be raised into the loops 6, and the stopping device actuates the shear. A waste remover 30 comprises a slide having an electromagnet (34) Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), or vertically movable pivoted arms (36), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), on its underside to extract the front and rear crop ends. Alternatively a similar waste remover 28 may be provided for removing the rear crop end. The looped wire is fed to a loop collector 14 in which it is assembled into coils.
