Abstract

871,005. Rolling. KOCKS G.mb.H., FRIEDRICH. Feb. 24, 1959 [Feb. 25, 1958], No. 6407/59. Class 83 (4). In continuously rolling iron wire from stock in a rolling mill, the stock w after leaving a preliminary mill train is retarded in a storage device comprising a stationary drum 1, Fig. 2, a rotatable tubular loop-forming member 3 and a rotatable guide member 2, the rear end of the drum being tapered to lead the wire to the finishing train of the mill. In a modification, Fig. 4, a hollow pivoted arm 3a is provided on the guide 2 for distribution of the stock to the drum 1. The temperature of the bloom on entry to the mill train is 1150-1200‹ C. and a temperature drop of only 50‹ C. which may occur up to the time of exit from the storage device is eliminated by warming the drum before rolling. Even without heating the drum the exit temperature from the finishing train is 1080-1130‹ C.
