Abstract

1382868 Fuzed ring benzopyran derivatives L S HARRIS H G PARS J C SHEEHAN and R K RAZDAN [trading as SHARPS ASSOCIATES] 4 May 1972 [12 May 1971] 20902/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula and their non-toxic acid addition salts, wherein R is H or C 1-6 alkyl; R 1 is C 1-6 alkyl; R 2 is C 1-20 alkyl or C 3-8 cycloalkyl; k is 0 or 1; n = 3-7 (k = 0) as 3-5 (k = 1); R 3 is a group of formula wherein m is 0-8, a and b are each 1-4, X is O, S, CH 2 or NR 4 and R 4 is H or C 1-6 alkyl (possibly OH- or halogen-substituted). These compounds, are prepared by reacting the corresponding hydroxybenzopyran derivative with R 3 OH and a carbodiimide. Details are also given for the preparation of 4-oxo-9-hydroxy-7-(3- methyl - 2 - octyl) - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydrocyclopenta- [c]-benzopyran. Therapeutic compositions for oral and parenteral administration comprise compounds of the above formula, which have analgesic and mild tranquilizing activity.
