Abstract

1382784 Multiple fastening STEELCASE INC 27 July 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 35867/73 Heading E2A The fastenings of the drawers 60 of a multiple-drawer cabinet are interlocked to allow the opening of only one drawer at a time by means of a flexible ribbon 30 having slack enough to accommodate the lateral displacement caused by the cam 40 which is rotated from the position of Fig. 3 to position Fig. 4 by the engagement of projections 47, 58 on the cam with a complex projection 62 on the drawer. The cam is pivoted at 41 and has a box-shaped body 51, 52, 53 for displacing the ribbon, this being guided between ears 54, one of which engages a friction detent (15, not shown) to hold it in the displaced position of Fig. 4. The spring arm 45 engages ribbon guide 20 when the drawer is first installed in the cabinet, and it serves to place the cam in its correct operative position (Fig. 6, not shown).
