Abstract
1382761 Air purifier J E WELFORD 23 Jan 1973 3284/73 Headings B1L and B1T [Also in Division F4] An air purifier element comprises a bed of active carbon granules F compressed between two resilient sheets D, E of foamed polyurethane, this assembly being sandwiched between support grilles B, C of rigid wood, metal or plastic in a frame A. The polyurethane sheets are normally 0.375 inches thick, but are compressed in use to grip the carbon granules and prevent them settling or chanelling even when the element is vertically oriented. The carbon bed may be 1.10 inches thick and comprises granules of 0.5 to 5.0 mms dia, with a bulk density of 0.4 to 0.6 grms per cc. The opencelled polyurethane may have 10-80 cells per linear inch. In Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) the element of Fig. 1 is arranged in a flat housing with a downstream air blower (H) and possibly an upstream filter (I), to form a mobile air purifier unit.
