Abstract

1299789 Cushions UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 22 May 1970 24888/70 Heading A4M A cushion comprises an airtight cover 1 containing a resilient, open-cell foam filler 2 unbonded to the cover 1 and having a curved surface contour and includes a manually operable, air inlet/outlet valve 5 with a push button control spring-biased to a closed position of the valve 5, the latter being connected by an air line 3 to a port 5 in the cover 1 whereby ambient air may be admitted to or released from the cushion on operation of the push-button. The cushion may have tabs 7 with apertures 8 for securing on a support. Alternatively the cushion may be secured by a button-type attachment. In a modification, Fig.2 (not shown), a semi-rigid arcuate member (6) overlies a part of the foamed filler (1<SP>1</SP>) to assist in maintaining the cushion contour and to help in compressing the cushion to expel air. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), an eliptical section cushion contains a hollow, cylindrical foam filler (11) reinforced in its hollow interior by a thin steel spring (13) or by a resilient, glass fibre reinforced resin tube. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the cover (14) is formed by a substantially closed cell foam material with a thickness sufficient to prevent escape of air.
