Abstract

1382499 Polyester filament yarn FIBER INDUSTRIES Inc 6 July 1972 [6 July 1971] 31693/72 Heading B5B Polyester filaments are spun from a multi-hole spinneret 10 into a heated spinning chimney 12, the internal surface of which is maintained at a temperature of from 260‹ to 460‹ C. Immediately after travelling a distance of from 6 to 24 inches in the chimney, the filaments are passed around porous tube 14, from the pores of which issue cooling gas, preferably air, at a rate of 20 to 130 cu.ft./min. and a temperature of from 15‹ to 80‹ C. A spin finish is then applied, the yarns drawn, preferably in a multi-stage process, heat-set and wound up. Until the finish is applied, the filaments make no contact with any part of the apparatus. Yarns having a denier per filament of at least 1À0, and preferably, 3À0 to 20 or more, produced by this process have a tenacity within the range of 7À0 to 11À0 g.p.d. a long term Uster value of 0À5 to 1À5, a tensile factor of from 28 to 40 g. per cent per denier and breaking strength standard deviation of from 0À14 to 0À20 g.p.d. as measured in yarns across a beam.
