Abstract

1381506 Edge connectors ROSS COURTNEY & CO Ltd 7 June 1972 [7 July 1971 2 Sept 1971] 31902/71 and 41035/71 Heading H2E Contacts 12 fit in cavities 25 in a housing section 14 and are clamped in place by a second housing section 13. Each contact comprises a base 15, two arms 16, 17 bent through at least 270 degrees to contact a conductor on one or each side of a board 38, and a portion 18 which is crimped to a wire 20 before the contact is fitted in the housing 13, 14. The board 38 has slots 55 to accommodate the portions 15 of the contacts. The slots 55 and the contacts 12 can be arranged asymmetrically to prevent incorrect insertion. The housing sections 13, 14 are moulded of ABS or polypropylene, are held together by rivets, eyelets, bolts or ultrasonic welding, and may be fixed to a support. Ribs 31 provide strength and easy gripping. In assembly, the contacts are held in position by a mounting board while the housing sections are fitted. In another embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the contacts (53) are of right-angle form and the board (54) fits into a slot (63) in one housing section (60) at right angles to the plane in which the two housing sections are joined.
