Abstract

1381501 Machines with permanent magnets; coils for dynamo-electric machines GIRLING Ltd 7 Jan 1972 [15 Jan 1971 1 June 1971] 2058/71 and 18235/71 Heading H2A An angular speed sensor, particularly for use in a vehicle brake control system, comprises a toothed rotor 1, Fig. 2, surrounded by a toothed stator 2 consisting of end plates 3, 4 clamped to an annular member 6 carrying a ring of permanent magnets 10 with their axes parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor and enclosing an annular coil 7 wound on a former, the plate 3 being formed with teeth 11 facing the rotor teeth. The coil former may be combined with the member 6 in which case the magnets are located radially inwardly of the coil, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), and the rotor 1 may be located externally of the stator. Fig. 8 shows a sensor similar to that shown in Fig. 2 except that the coil 18 is pre-formed by winding on a mandrel wire coated with an epoxy resin and curing the resin by passing current through the coil, the coil then being located in an annular groove 14 in an annular plastics moulding 7 and the mouth of the groove closed by a plug or sealing component. The moulding 7 may be combined with the magnet carrier 6, Figs. 9-11 (not shown), the magnets being located radially inwardly of the coil as in Figs. 5-7. The sensor is shown in Fig. 12 mounted in a disc brake assembly. The stator end plate 4 is attached by screws 22 to a stationary part 21 whilst the rotor 1 is coupled to a part 24 rotatable with a wheel.
