Abstract

1381150 Disc brakes; automatic brake control DAIMLER-BENZ AG 18 May 1972 [21 May 1971] 23392/72 Headings F2E and F2F In a vehicle braking installation actuated by a pressure medium and comprising disc brakes associated with wheels of a front axle or axles and a rear axle or axles, the brakes are so coordinated constructionally that upon heating of the brake linings during braking the ratio of the braking force and the disc volume swept by the brake linings is substantially the same for the front- and rear-wheel brakes and the braking force divided by the area of the brake linings is substantially the same for the front-wheel brakes as for the rear-wheel brakes whereby any variation of the coefficients of friction at the brakes is in the same direction. With equal effective disc thickness at the front- and rearwheel brakes the ratio of the frictional work and the swept brake surface, and the ratio of the frictional work and the area of the brake linings are substantially the same for the front-wheel and the rear-wheel brakes. In the disc brake shown in Fig. 1 a disc 2 is acted upon by linings 4 applied by pistons 4. The brake disc 2 has transition cross-sections 15 between the disc part engaged by the linings 4 and the hub part which is so small that heat conduction therethrough is very small.
