Abstract
1380788 Bottle washing machines H RAPP 5 July 1972 [19 July 1971] 31549/72 Heading B8T Bottles 20 are transported into a rinsing and drying machine by a carriage 13 along a rail 16 on rollers 14, 15, and are supported on tubes 19 with nozzles 21 to which rinsing water is supplied by a pipe 22 on the carrier and a pipe 10 which is normally closed by a rotary disc 40 but which is automatically opened when the carriage 13 reaches the operative position in which the rollers 14, 15 engage depressions 17, 18 in the rail 16. The consequent lowering of the carriage causes the pipe 22 to engage the pipe 10 in a liquid-tight manner and arms 25 carried on the pipe 22 to deflect, against springs 42, 43 the arms 24 mounted on the pin 41 to which the disc 40 is fixed, pivoting the disc to open the pipe 10. A conventional reaction driven rotary rinser 11 is fed with liquid from ports 37-39 in the pipe 22. Alternatively the carriage 13 has skids 115 which slide on the rail 16 and has rails 125 which deflect the arms 24 opening the pipe 10, but the carriage is not lowered and a gap 118 is left between pipes 10 and 22 so that air is entrained with the liquid. The amount by which the disc 40 is turned is pre-set by adjusting the clearance between the carriage and the rails 125. The pipe 10 may also be connected to a supply of drying air.
