Tubes, smoke. - In an helically grooved smoketube, the walls 2 of the tube between the turns of the groove 1 as seen in longitudinal section are straight, and the groove is so shaped that it subtends an angle 3 at the centre of the tube greater than 45 degrees, and the tangents 4 common to its inwardly and outwardly curved parts form an obtuse angle with one another. A tube may be formed with one, two, or three grooves.
