Abstract

1380251 Shearing NORTH WESTERN ELECTRICITY BOARD 20 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 2837/71 Heading B3W [Also in Division H2] A metal sheathed cable 50 is prepared, e.g. for jointing by making tramline cuts 51a, 51b in the metal sheath, making a part circumferential cut in the sheath at each end of the tramline cuts and levering the strip 53 so formed away from the cable thus facilitating the levering away of the sheath 54 remaining between the part-circumferential cuts. Preferably strip 54 is cut midway by a further part-circumferential cut, sticks of solder are soldered to each portion of the strip adjacent the midway cut, the halves of the strip are levered up by the sticks of solder which are then removed and the two half strips are wound up on a tin-opener type winding bar, Figs. 3 and 11 (not shown). The flap 54 is lifted by a lever 30, the other end of which is shaped to lift sector shaped conductors from the cable. The circumferential cuts are made by a saw which has a stop to limit its depth of cut. Sheath cutting device.-The tramlines 51 are cut by a device having a block 20 with a groove 21 to receive the sheath and a cutter tool carrier 22 attached by bolts 26 to the block. Carrier 22 has cutting discs 23 on a shaft 24, the pressure of the discs on the sheath being controllable by adjusting nuts 27 on bolts 26.
