Abstract

1380081 Laminates LANTOR Ltd 23 Feb 1972 [23 Feb 1971] 5163/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division H5] A laminated fabric comprises a web of fibres needle-punched to a carrier material to form a composite layer which is stitch-bonded to (a) another composite layer formed from a web of fibres needle punched to a carrier material, or (b) a composite layer formed from a decorated woven fabric needle-punched to a carrier material or (c) a decorated woven fabric. The fibres of the webs and decorated woven fabrics may be wool, cellulosic or synthetic fibres and the carrier material may be woven or knitted scrim made from cotton, rayon or a synthetic fibre, an extruded plastics net or a bonded non- woven fabric. The laminated fabric may have an electrical heating element in the spaces between the stitch-bonding to form an electric blanket. The stitch-bonding may run in parallel rows along the length of the blanket and the spacing between the rows in the centre of the blanket may be greater than at the edges. The stitch-bonding may be prevented from running back at the end of each row by overstitching or by using a thermoplastic stitching thread which can be heat sealed to itself and the adjacent fabric. Either side of each needle-punched lamina may be placed adjacent to either side of the other and the needle-punching may be from one or both sides and may be such as to force the bulk of the web through the carrier material.
