Abstract

137,962. Haddan, A.J. H., (Corning Glass Works). March 25, 1919. Lenses.-A signalling-lens is formed with a series of refracting-zones, the principal focal points of the zones on one part of it being substantially the same for all the zones in such parts, and the principal focal points of the zones on one or more other parts being behind those of the first part and different from one another. The lens may be used for railway signalling, the first part being the upper part of the lens, extending to 135 degrees each side of the vertical, and producing, when the light source is at its principal focus, a parallel beam for distant observation. The lower part of the lens may comprise zones having focal points B - - B<4>, Fig. 4, behind the focal point A of the upper part, and producing downwardly-deflected diverging beams which overlap and are visible at close quarters. A plurality of parts as last described may be provided; in the case of a railwaysignal lens, a side part of the lens may have an inner zone with its principal focus at A and the foci of the other zones at various distances behind A.
