Abstract

1379114 Treating webs with liquids RODNEY HUNT CO 4 July 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 31243/72 Heading D1L Apparatus for the liquid treatment of a travelling web 26 comprises a housing 16 formed on a tank 12 and defining a treatment chamber 18, a pair of opposed walls 44a, 44b (see Fig. 2) located at the exit of chamber 18 and forming a treatment zone 20, a guide roller 30 mounted in the chamber 18 for reversing the direction of travel of the web 26 fed therethrough, and means comprising conduit 40, pump 36 and conduit 42 for continuously feeding treatment liquid from tank 12 into chamber 18, the opposed wall members 44a and 44b lying on non-parallel planes which converge to and intersect at a location 46 outside the treatment zone 20 and the material being subjected to a padding action in the treatment zone 20 by a flexible reed 22 mounted in a groove formed in stationary support 48 located at this location 46 and vibrated by the treatment liquid passing through the zone. Resilient compressible packing material 74a, 74b (e.g. of silicone rubber) is preferably provided on either side of the reed 22 to prevent metal fatigue developing in the constantly vibrated reed.
