Abstract

1378708 Polyolefin derivatives BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 10 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 21795/72 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C4-C5] Compounds of formula. where R is an alkenyl group derived from a polyolefin, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are C 1-10 alkylene, R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-12 alkyl and m is 2-12, may be prepared by reacting a diamine of formula HR<SP>4</SP>NR<SP>3</SP>N(R<SP>4</SP>) 2 with an acid of formula HOOC(CH 2 ) m COOH, reacting the product with a diamine of formula HR<SP>4</SP>NR<SP>2</SP>NHR<SP>4</SP> and further reacting with RX where X is halogen. The polyolefin may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene, a butene or 4-methylpentene-1, particularly polyisobutylene. The compounds may be used as detergent additives in gasoline. In examples C 4-6 alkane dioic acids are reacted with (1) N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propylene diamine followed by ethylene diamine or (2) ethylene diamine and the products further reacted with polyisobutenyl (1300) chloride.
