Abstract

137,869. Schwarzer, F. June 8, 1916, [Convention date]. Whistles. - In a steam whistle, the sounding-member is arranged so as to be capable of rotation relatively to the valve casing, whereby the mounting of the device in any position is facilitated. As shown, the sounding-element 16 is mounted on a cylindrical jacket 10 enclosing the ports 4 in the valve casing 1, but free to be rotated relatively thereto. The valve disk 6 is carried on a stem 7 so as to be kept against its seat by a spring 32. The valve-operating means comprises a flexible transmission 25 connected to a lever 22 pivoted on a U-shaped member 21 free to revolve relatively to the valve casing. The valve casing is. externally threaded at the lower end for screwing into the pressure pipe &c., the sounding-element and operating-means being held from rotation during the fixing of the device, and afterwards adjusted independently as desired.
