Abstract

1378530 Releasable fastenings S COUSINS 29 Nov 1972 [26 June 1972] 55162/72 Heading E2A A separable fastener comprises, in combination, a housing 24 consisting of a pair of spaced apart side walls 54, 56 and a pair of spaced apart, plate-like portions extending therebetween and defining therewith a channel extending inwardly of the housing from an opening 88, at least one of the plate-like portions comprising a pair of ledges 60, 64, extending towards each other from respective side walls and a bar-like structure 74 extending between them and defining a fenestration 82 opening into the channel and a male member 22 provided with a frame member 28 adapted to enter the channel and a fixed shoulder 52, the frame member having an opening 30 and a resiliently mounted tongue 32 the thickness of which is substantially the same as that of the frame member. A surface of the tongue defines an inclined surface extending from the end of the frame member remote from the shoulder 52 and terminating at a shoulder 34 spaced from the shoulder 52 a distance substantially equal to the width of the bar-like structure 74 and defining one wall of a notch having a depth not greater than the thickness of the bar-like structure, another wall of the notch being a lip 36. The members 22, 24 each have means for the attachment thereto of related members 44, 90 to be secured together. The tongue shoulder 34, when the frame member 28 is received within the housing, extends into the opening 80 and into engagement with the bar-like structure 74 to secure the members together. As shown, the side plate portions of the housing are provided with pairs of apertures 80, 82 and 84, 86 and one end of a strap 92 is secured by an anchoring bar 26 having curved and toothed or serrated edges. The tongue 32 is formed at its junction with the member 28 with a groove 96 which may be bridged by reinforcing ribs. In modifications, the ridges 94 on the tongue are replaced by a depression, the apertures 82 and 86 are omitted, and the strap 92 is passed through an opening in the wall 58 of the housing.
