Abstract
1378527 Rotary mowers MASON & PORTER Ltd 31 Oct 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 50116/72 Heading A1F A rotary mower has a motor driving a vertical shaft carrying a rotating blade 4 within a cutting chamber 3 to which are attached four wheels 6 and a handle for pushing (not shown). The mower is characterised by the varying profiles of the side wall 9 of the grass chute 10 and of the side wall of the cutting chamber in the region adjacent to the chute, the object being to alleviate the problem of blockage in the chute. The side wall changes in profile as shown in Figs. 2, 4, 5, 6. The unmodified wall in Fig. 2 is taken at section FF in the view of the inverted mower shown in Fig. 1. Anticlockwise from FF towards the discharge chute 10, the lower free end of the wall is sloped inwards toward the blade, the angle increasing as indicated by Fig. 4 (section DD), Fig. 5 (section CC) and Fig. 6 (section BB). The upper surface 12 of the chute covers upwards as shown in Fig. 8 (section GG) to the end 14 which carries the grass catcher. In an alternative embodiment the grass chute has a deflector 16 attached to the wall of the chute.
