Abstract

1,237,307. Rotary mowers. NORSK LETTMETAL A/S. 26 Sept., 1969 [28 Sept., 1968; 7 June, 1969], No. 47495/69. Heading A1F. A motor lawn mower which has means for producing an air stream mounted above its cutting means, has a casing 1 in which rotable cutting means consisting of a plate 3 and cutters 4 are driven by a motor 2. A fan wheel 7 is mounted on the same shaft as the plate 3 and air is drawn in through an aperture 8. A partition wall 5, together with the casing 1, defines a chamber in which a confining wall 6 follows a curved path and extends from adjacent the fan wheel 7 to the side wall of the casing 1. The end 9 of the chamber thus formed has an opening through the partition 5 into a chamber which has an extension 10 forming a discharge opening for grass cut on entering the front half of the casing, viz. from A to B, under the suction effect of the air stream from the opening adjacent the end 9 of the chamber which follows the periphery of the casing to the discharge opening 10. The cutters 4 can be formed of wire, spring band or like resilient material (23)-(28). Fig. 4 (not shown), pivotally mounted along the peripheral portion of a plate (21), such that if an obstacle is encountered the cutters will be deflected inwardly of the plate (21).
