Abstract

1378392 Cutting and printing apparatus MONARCH MARKING SYSTEMS Inc 18 Oct 1971 [24 Nov 1970] 48418/71 Heading B8R A web of plain pressure sensitive, i.e. dry, decalcomania on a temporary backing is passed through a rotary cutter which at least partially severs the decalcomania at spaced intervals without affecting the backing. The cutter blades are inked, preferably with a machine readable ink not normally visible to the eye, so that the edges of each cut or partially cut blank decal is marked. Such marking ensures that when the decal material is printed and applied to articles the operations of printing &c. may be automatically carried out in a machine which utilizes the machine readable marks for step-bystep movement of the backed decalcomanias, Fig. 7 shows such a rotary cutter and inking apparatus 34, 38 whilst Fig. 8 illustrates a machine using a web of decalcomania blanks. Instead of decals the invention may be applied to strips of gummed labels.
