Abstract

1378361 Coating-applicator H RUGEL and G LUTZ [trading as RUGELA LUTZ MASCHINENFABRIK] 5 March 1973 [7 March 1972] 10510/73 Heading B2L [Also in Division Fl] A coating applicator comprises an applicator roller 112 mounted on a frame 28 which is supplied from a reservoir 100 by means of a hose pump which operates by alternately squeezing and reshaping a hose 6 within limits set by pressure limiting means in the pump. The hose pump comprises a motor driven roller carrier 8 which has rollers 9 which squeeze the hose against a channel 3 in the base 2 and reshaping rollers 10 set at 90‹ thereto. The motor and carrier are mounted on a pivoted bar 15 and their combined weight act as a pressure limiting means under the control of a set screw 17. A control valve 26 is provided halfway along the exit hose 24. The applicator roller 112 is fed from a wetting device 111 mounted on lazy tongs 15" and urged against the roller by a spring 117 the wetting device having apertures 113 and being fed by tubes 29, 110 from the pipe 24. In a modification of the pressure limiting means the motor may be fixed relative to the base plate and the pressure rollers spring urged against the hose. In one form the rollers are directly urged by springs, in a second they are mounted on spring urged drag links and in a third they are mounted on centrally pivoted levers urged by tension springs. In a modification of the wetting means the lazytongs arrangement may be replaced by a single spring urged pivoted lever. Several shapes of wetting means may be provided which may be curved to fit the applicator roller, straight or curved in the opposite direction. A reciprocable piston can be provided in the main manifold chamber of the wetting means to assist with cleaning. - In order to promote rotation of the roller even when light pressures are provided a series of cranked spring members 207 act on the surface to cause rotation.
