Abstract

1378011 Gyratory crushers L W JOHNSON 12 Oct 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 47150/72 Heading B2A A gyratory crusher comprises a base frame 11 supporting a crusher head 13, Fig. 1. A V- shaped support ring 33 is bolted to a flange 37 of the frame 11. The top surface of the ring 33 is shaped as a guideway for a bowl carrier 41, which comprises a nut with internal threads 43 engaging male threads 45 of a segmented adjustment ring 47. The segments fit in notches in a bowl 49 Fig. 1A. A bowl liner 51 is suspended below the bowl 49 by rods 53. Wedges 63 are urged by double-acting rams 65 and spring thrust units 67, Fig. 5 to expand the segmented ring 47 and lock the bowl 49 relative to the bowl carrier. The rams 65 each include rods 80 which project upwards against beams 82 and downward against the wedges 63, Fig. 4. Screws 86 bolt the cylinders 65 to a flange 75 to tape the upward thrust. To adjust the bowl clearance 85, Fig. 1, a mechanism 90, Fig. 6, comprising a double-ended pawl cooperates with projections 95 around the periphery of a cover 97 attached to the bowl 49. The pawl is pivotally mounted to a bell crank lever 101 which is in turn pivoted on a pin 103 and actuated by a booster cylinder 109, Fig. 12. To adjust the bowl clearance 85, Fig. 1, pistons 78, Fig. 10 (rams 65) are retracted drawing up the wedges 63 and releasing the bowl 49. The mechanism 90 is then actuated to reciprocate the pawl 93, rotate the cover 97 and raise or lower the bowl. Upward/downward selection is by operation of solenoids 130, Fig. 6, which set the pawl 93 in appropriate position. After this the bowl is again locked in position. The mechanism 90 can be operated manually (by a lever 124, Fig. 6), with hydraulic assistance or electrically either locally or remotely. In this case a solenoid 130 sets the pawl in desired position and solenoids 128 are alternately energized to swing arm 116 against valves 120 causing the cylinder 109 to reciprocate the pawl 93. When adjustment is complete the pawl 93 is swung clear of the projections 95. The bowl carrier is held against the support ring 33 by a hold-down ring 111 which has a vertical flange 113 connected by rods 115 to cylinder brackets 118 which carry the rods of cylinders 121 Figs. 1, 1A. These cylinders permit the upper assembly (including bowl carrier 41) to lift when tramp material enters the crusher. Charged accumulators 127 maintain pressure in the cylinders to draw down the ring 111. The bowl 41 is permitted to creep under the large forces encountered i.e. to slide under the hold-down ring 111 and migrate round the ring 33 due to the provision of non-metallic rings 129, 131, Fig. I and 4. A machined surface 150, Fig. 1A, of the mantle 91 is clamped against the crusher head by a member 152 screwed into a socket 154 Fig. 1A which in turn is screwed to the head. A cap 158 is screwed to the member 152. The mantle is thus replaceable.
