[Also in Division Fl] A gyratory crusher, having a normally stationary crushing member 22 which is screwthreaded into a supporting ring 14 yieldably held on the main frame 10, is provided with fluid-operated piston-and-cylinder assemblies 34 arranged near the upper portion of the member to apply an upward thrust to the latter to take up the slack between the screw threads. The assemblies 34 are mounted on a cap 29 which is arranged to be stepped round by a pair of fluid-operated rams which are mounted one on each side of the crusher on the ring 14 for engagement with a toothed flange 62 of the cap. The cap and member 22 are locked together by projections 31a, 36 so that they rotate together and allow vertical movement of the member 22 within the cap. When the member 22 is to be lowered to compensate for wear of its liner 24 which is of manganese steel, the fluid pressure to the assemblies 34 is released and then the side rams operated to screw down the member 22; the member 22 may be locked in the adjusted position by fluid-operated locking devices carried by the ring 14 and operated to engage the flange 62. Fluid is then supplied to the assemblies 34, Fig. 3 (not shown), to effect upward thrust of each rod 68 which is connected to the flange 31 of the member 22 by a collar 82 and key 85. The rod is resiliently connected at its upper end to a sleeve 72 which is arranged to move with the rod when acted upon by a loosely mounted piston 78. When uncrushable material enters the crusher, the spring assemblies 16 allow the member 22 to lift, the fluid system being protected against damage due to abnormal pressures during these conditions by the springs 76 as shown or alternatively, by accumulators disposed adjacent the ports 65 of the assemblies 34.
