Abstract
1377751 Beacon BARDIC SYSTEMS Ltd 24 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971] 5559/71 Heading F4R A beacon comprises an electric lamp 42 powered by a battery 58 located within the beacon, the lamp forming part of an optical system which includes a lens 45 and a transparent screen 44 having differently coloured areas, the screen lying in the focal plane of the lens, the optical system in operation (not shown) lying at an acute angle to a base surface 11 of the beacon. To obtain the acute angle, 2 to 16 degrees, a cover part 26 to which is secured a barrel 40 housing the optical system, is pivoted at the rear end at 32, the front end being supported by pins 30 in holes 21, 29 in base cover 11 and part 26 respectively. A condensing lens 43 and a concave mirror 41 may be included, the final beam subtending a horizontal and vertical divergence angle of 16 degrees from the optical axis. The base may have rotatable feet 13, 14, and the lamp be operated by a push button 59. A sight 67 is included, and the beacon is said to produce a beam particularly suitable for an approach path for helicopter landings.
