Abstract

1,203,892. Teaching warfare. GIRAVIONS DURAND. 9 Dec., 1968 [16 Feb., 1968], No. 58378/68. Heading F3C. A device for training in guiding missiles from a mobile platform comprises an aiming device integral with the mobile platform and including an optical device assembled as an episcope with a gyroscopically stabilized mirror 10 for producing a stabilized image of a real landscape. The device is further provided with an eyepiece 7, a plane semi-reflecting mirror 8 adapted to receive the image of the landscape and project it into the eyepiece 7 and an optical device for generating a light spot. The light spot is subordinate to a guiding mechanism which directs the guided spot towards the eyepiece 7 through the semi-reflecting mirror 8. In the construction shown the optical device for generating the spot comprises a light bulb having a filament 1, a small glass sphere 3 mounted in a conical bore of a fixed oblique mirror 5 and producing the spot of light, a plane mirror 4 which is movable about two axes by the guiding mechanism for the spot of light. The guiding mechanism includes two servo-mechanisms 13 controlled by signals issued by a computer. The device further comprises a lens 6 focused on the light spot, a second lens 14 focused on a plane reticular lens 15 and an image re-erecting device 16. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the lens 14 and a further lens 9 (Fig. 1) are replaced by a single lens between the mirror 8 and the reerecting device 16. In a further embodiment the light spot produced by the glass sphere is projected directly into the movable plane mirror and the re-erecting device is constituted by an objective lens and two further lenses arranged between the stabilized mirror and the semireflecting mirror (Fig. 3, not shown).
