Abstract

1377746 Rigging sails G N WHEATLEY 3 Jan 1973 [8 Jan 1972] 32039/71 Heading B7V A hank-loading device for the faster fitting of spring-loaded sail hanks 1 on to a stay 3 comprises a channel-section magazine 6 adapted to fit over the stay 3. Magazine 6 has a handle 11 and means-such as teeth 16 mounted on arms 13 which are pivotable at 14 by a further handle 12- for retaining the magazine on the stay. In use, the hanks 1 of the required sail, e.g. a foresail are clipped on to the opposed outer surfaces 9 of the magazine 6 where they are retained by a projecting rib 10. The magazine is fitted over the stay and the handles 11, 12 are brought together. The halliard is attached and as the sail is hoisted the hanks 1 run off the end of the magazine 6 and engage the forestay 3.
