Abstract

137,708. Barrow, L., Scott, S. M., and Cadbury Bros. April 11, 1919. Producers; producer plant.- A gas-producer of the suction type is carried on a motor-vehicle and a gas purifying and cooling system is arranged beneath the frame or on the roof. while a water and air heating coil is arranged in the producer and a valve is provided which automatically stops all communication between the producer and the engine and air supply when the engine is stopped. Gas is led from the producer a, Fig. 3, through a dust-separating chamber p and then through pipes q on the roof or beneath the frame to the engine t. One of the pipes may contain a removable cage r filled with wood-wool or other filtering-material. The producer shown in Fig. 4 is provided with a coil l by which air and gas is heated prior to its entry into a chamber e at the bottom of the furnace. The funnel m by which fuel is supplied to the furnace contains a depending pipe n through which a poker can be inserted for stirring the fuel without its being necessary to push the poker through the whole mass of the fuel. The air and gas is supplied to the engine through the valve box shown in Fig. 5, in which the gas is drawn through the automatic lift valve z and the air through openings in the box controlled by a cylindrical valve y. Both valves are closed by springs and opened when required by wires, 8, 9. The engine draws the mixture past the butterfly valve 5 and its suction effect lifts the gas valve z from its seat. When the engine stops, the gas valve automatically closes so that air cannot enter the producer pipes and a good supply of undiluted gas is thus available for restarting. A water vaporiser u as described in Specification 130,754 may be used.
