Abstract

1376656 Gantry cranes on ships J V BUCKLAND 29 March 1973 13490/74 Addition to 1365295 Heading B8B Ship's cargo handling apparatus comprises a gantry 3 mounted on a ship 1 for fore and aft movement along the deck, wherein the horizontal structure of the gantry 3 supports a Hammer Head (or other jib) crane 2 mounted on a carriage 5 specifically designed to support the free end of the jib of another Hammer Head (or other jib) crane 9 mounted on an adjacent, second gantry (6), Fig. 3 (not shown). The crane 2 is mounted on a slewing gear 4, the carriage 5 having wheels 5a enabling it to move athwartships. The jib of the crane 2 may be similarly arranged to rest on carriage (7) of crane 9, the two cranes being joined by locking devices (10) with their controls linked for joint operation by a single operator.
