Abstract

1376327 Crane assembly JARVIS GEOCHEMICAL Ltd and GEOCHEMICAL SERVICES (HOLDINGS) Ltd 19 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 59631/72 Heading E1F A crane assembly comprises a working device, such as a grab 4, suspended by at least one cable 3 from a support structure 2, and a plurality of sheaves 6 over each of which pass operating conduits or cables 8, the sheaves being mounted on the support structure adjacent the cable 3 for independent horizontal movement relative to each other and to the cable 3, so that the cables 8 and 3 may be kept coplanar over a range of orientations about a vertical axis of the working device relative to the support structure. Thus it is not necessary for jib 2 to be normal to a trench being dug. The sheaves 6 are carried by arms 5 pivoted to the jib 2 and lockable by means of pins to quadrants (7), Figs. 1, 2, 4 (not shown), and the cables 8 are taken upon spring-loaded reels (9) which have means to indicate how much has been paid out. The grab 4 is suspended from a plate (57), Fig. 5 (not shown), which may be rotated about a vertical axis relative to a plate (58) forming part of a sheave block (10) through which the cable 3 passes, and then clamped in position.
