Abstract

1376177 Electrolytic coulometers COMPULINE CORP 6 Dec 1971 [14 Jan 1971] 56435/71 Heading G1Q An electrolytic coulometer has an anode a loop of wire 15 having a flattened ribbon-like centre portion 16 which becomes eaten away electrolytically until, after the passage of a predetermined amount of charge, it breaks altogether, the sudden increase in the impedance between the ends 12 of the loop being sensed by external circuitry. The electrolyte 6 is trapped between an inverted insulating cap 8 and the base 7 of a cylindrical, metal container 5, the base constituting the cathode, the space above the cup 8 being plugged by sealer wax or epoxy 19. The anode wire 15 is copper, the cathode nickel, and the electrolyte 6 copper sulphate with alcohol as an additive to increase its resistivity.
