Abstract

1376168 Abrading TIMESAVERS SANDERS Inc 10 Nov 1971 [24 March 1971] 21795/74 Divided out of 1376167 Heading B3D A machine for buffing and deburring flat surfaces of workpieces, such as printed circuit boards comprises a main frame 11 having an upright supporting member 7, a rotary brush 10 detachably mounted on a spindle 48 carried by bearing means 49 on the supporting member 7, the brush being on one side of the member and a power drive 58 on the other, and a work support 13 vertically adjustably mounted on the supporting member beneath the brush spindle. The upright member 7 is secured to the base 8 of the frame and to a further support 12 at right angles thereto. The member 7 is formed with an opening 52 in which is disposed the bearing means 49 which is carried by a pair of leaf springs 50 clamped by brackets 51 one each side of the supporting member. The bearing means rotatably supports the spindle which is axially fixed with respect to the bearing means, and an eccentric 54 is connected by a rod 55 to the bearing means to axially reciprocate the bearing means in the opening 52. The brush is mounted on the spindle at one side of the supporting member, and pulleys are mounted on the spindle at the other side of the member for receiving a belt 63 driven by a motor 58 on the further support 12. The work is carried beneath the brush 10 by a belt conveyer 9 having a freely rotatable roller 20 and a roller 19 mounted on a shaft 19<SP>1</SP> driven by reduction gearing 46 and belt drive 60 from the motor 58, the belt also driving a pulley 57 of the eccentric 54. The conveyer and rollers are mounted on a frame 22 vertically adjustable on the supporting member 7 by a hand wheel 26 and screw 24 engaging a nut 27 on the frame 22 to compensate for different thicknesses of workpieces and wear of the brush. The work is held down on the conveyer by rollers 30 carried by arms 32 on a second frame 35 which is vertically adjustable relative to frame 22 by a screw 38 and hand wheel 41 to accommodate workpieces of different thicknesses. Leaf springs 36 act on the arms 32 to press the rollers towards the conveyer. The arms are pivoted to brackets 42 horizontally adjustable towards and from the brush on the frame 35. The machine may be enclosed by housings (5, 6, Fig. 1, not shown). If the machine operates dry, the housing (5) may be connected to a dust extractor. If coolant is supplied to nozzles 80, a tray 72 collects the waste and is connected to a drain 78.
