Abstract

1375421 Packaging containers OWENSILLINOIS Inc 18 Feb 1972 [19 Feb 1971] 7611/72 Heading B8C Containers such as bottles C are packaged in groups of six by the application of an elastic band 14 severed from flattened tubes P of plastics, the necks 11 being inserted through openings 16 in an elastic carrier 15 which is retained by the caps 13, the carrier having finger-hold openings 17. In machine 20, the bottles are grouped by star-wheels 22 on continuous belt conveyer 21, and bands 14 are applied by downward movement of a horizontally reciprocating head 26. The carriers 15 are severed from webs E, and picked up by a head 31 which then rotates through 180 degrees about a vertical axis before descending to press carriers simultaneously on to three groups of bottles. Head 31 comprises sets of fingers movable radially outwards after entering openings 16 to stretch the carriers 15.
