Abstract

1375165 Catalytic oven coating IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Oct 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 54128/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division Cl] A catalytic coating for oven walls is made by producing large particles containing a catalytically active material capable of prohaving a strength equivalent to that of cylinders of the same material whose length is between half and double their diameter and whose crushing strength is in the range 1,500-10,000 p.s.i.g.; milling the large particles to give catalyst particles; and incorporating the catalyst with binder (preferably enamel or a highly fluorinated organic polymer) particles. The large particles may be made by agglomerating powdered catalyst constituents. The catalyst particles preferably contain at least 40% by weight catalytically active material, have a porosity in the range 10-70% v/v and a density in the range 1.4 to 2.5 g./cc. The catalytically active material may be oxide or metal of one or more of Cu, V, Bi, Mo, Mn, Fe, Ni, Pt-group, Sn, Nb, Cr, W, Re, Co or Ce. A mixture of Cu and Mn oxides is preferred. Specification 1,362,948 is referred to.
