Abstract

1338182 Iron-based pre-alloy powders M KOEHLER 23 March 1972 [24 March 1971] 13773/72 Heading C7A and C7D Valve seating rings are produced by providing a powdered pre-alloy containing in weight per cent:- 1 to 2% nickel 1 to 2% molybdenum 6 to 7% cobalt optionally 1 to 2% chromium and 0.3 to 0.5% titanium the balance being iron; adding to the powder prealloy 0.5 to 1.0% carbon and 0.7 to 1.5% lead, both percentages being based by weight on the weight of the pre-alloy; brignetting the mixture; sintering; hot or cold recompressing; and optionally tempering. Thevalve seating rings represent an improvement over rings produced from powder mixtures without any pre-alloying, enabling a lower cobalt content to be used.
