Abstract

1374878 Induction furnace BALZERS PATENT- & BETEILIGUNGS-AG 4 Dec 1972 [24 Dec 1971] 55907/72 Heading H5H To reduce eddy current heating in the radiation screening plates 4 surrounding the usuable space of a vacuum induction oven the plates 4 are fixed to a first surrounding longitudinally slitted cylindrical sleeve, 6 and the sleeve 6 is surrounded by a further longitudinally slitted sleeve 8, the margins 9, 10 and 11, 12 of the top slits of the sleeves 6 and 8 being connected together. As shown, four bundles of three arcuate screening plates 4 are each secured to sleeve 6 by a pair of vertically spaced metal pins 5 and the plates of each bundle are angularly off-set so that the radiation screening is uninterrupted. The sleeve 8 rests on a base-plate (not shown) and supports the inner sleeve 6, which is shorter, by means of the marginal connections. The sleeve 8 is surrounded by induction coil 3 which is supported by a carrier 2 mounted on the base-plate. A container 13 for work has an observation hole in its upper surface and supports thereon a further bundle of screening plates also provided with an observation hole. Further screening plates are mounted beneath the container. All components of the screening arrangement consist of metal, e.g. tungsten or molybdenum.
