Abstract

1373729 Levelling strip; rolling; improving physical properties JOHN LYSAGHT (AUSTRALIA) Ltd 3 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 45497/72 Headings B3E B3M and B3V Metal strip is flattened and any discontinuity in its yield point suppressed by passage through the apparatus shown while under tension. The strip approaches the nip between work roll 1 and reaction roll 2 at an angle α 2 of between 2 and 20 degrees to the tangent at the nip, and is bent around roll 1 before passing through the nip between roll 1 and reaction roll 3. Pressure roll 5 is offset from the bisector of rolls 2, 3, by an angle α1 so that the pressure between rolls 1, 2 is greater than that between rolls 1, 3. The total extension of the strip is between 0À2 and 1%. The diameter of roll 1 is 40 to 200 times the strip thickness. Back-up rolls 4 may be provided.
