Abstract

1373316 Dicarboxylic acids WESTVACO CORP 23 Oct 1972 48767/72 Heading C2C A di-carboxylic acid of formula wherein one X is hydrogen and the other a carboxylic acid group, is prepared by reacting a fatty acid mixture of conjugated and non-conjugated linoleio acids, e.g. tall oil fatty acids, with up to 26% by weight of acrylic acid, and from 0À01 to 0À5% of iodine at from 200‹ to 270‹ C. The product may be separated by molecular distillation, or esterified and the esters fractionally distilled.
