Abstract

1373232 Preventing slag formation FOSTER WHEELER CORP 11 Oct 1971 [9 Oct 1970] 47309/71 Heading F4B In a hopper-bottomed steam generator, having a heat absorbing lining and a combustion air preheater, air from the preheater is fed through openings in the heat absorbing lining in the hopper section to reduce slag formation. Part of the fins 62, Fig. 4, between the tubes 60 of the furnace lining are cut away near the bottom header tubes 24, so that air flows from the windbox surrounding the burners 44 and the hopper bottom to flow into the throat of the furnace, Fig. 1. In a modification, a duct leads from a windbox surrounding the burners to the throat region.
