1373161 Crushing cans HUNT BROS (OLDBURY) Ltd 5 Jan 1973 [13 Jan 1972] 1559/72 Heading B3V A can crusher comprises at least one piercing tool formed with at least one shoulder which, upon withdrawal of the tool after forming a hole, pulls down on the margins of the can adjacent the hole, and means for crushing the pierced can. As shown, cans are advanced in pairs to the crushing station by a pneumatic or hydraulic actuator 5. A crushing head 7, operated by an actuator 6, holds the cans as they are pierced by barbed tools 13, Fig. 3, moved by an actuator 10. After the tools 13 have been withdrawn, the crushing head resumes its downward movement. Liquid expelled from the cans passes through ducts 8, 9. The crushed cans are ejected by advance of the next pair to be crushed, the actuators operating pneumatic, hydraulic or electric sensing switches 20 so that each step initiates the next for continuous running. A simpler form of piercing tool may be used, Fig. 7 (not shown), and the machine may operate on only one can at a time.
