Abstract
1373142 Mixing SULZER BROS Ltd 17 April 1972 [29 April 1971 24 Jan 1972] 17619/72 Heading B1C A mixer for flowable gaseous, liquid or particulate materials comprises at least one mixing element through which the materials flow co-currently, the or each element including layers defining flow channels, the flow channels of each layer running parallel and being inclined to those of the adjacent layer, with communication established between the channels of adjacent layers. A series of elements may be provided within a tube through which the materials flow, Figs. 1, 3, 6 and 7 (not shown). Each element may comprise a stack of corrugated, apertured lamellae 6, Fig. 2, presenting their edges to the flow of materials, or flat elements 20, Fig. 4, e.g. of metal may have strips 21 welded or brazed to them to define the channels. Further, Fig. 5, banks 23 of slotted tubes 24 may be provided. The lamellae 6, &c., may incorporate catalysts for promoting gaseous reactions, and they may be formed from a woven or knitted metal fabric.
