Abstract

1373128 Electro-photographic element MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 29 Dec 1971 [25 Dec 1970] 60604/71 Heading G2C An electro-photographic plate comprises a layer 1 including an organic photo-conductive insulating material, a layer 2 including amorphous selenium, a layer 3 including a polyimide and an electrically conducting backing layer 4. Preferably the polyimide is the product of condensation between the dianhydride of pyromellitic acid and diamino-diphenyl ether or an aromatic diamine. The polyimide layer is preferably less than 15 Á thick. In a method of manufacturing the plate, a base, e.g. aluminuim, brass or steel plate, or aluminium or Cu 1 coated polyester, is cleaned and coated with a solution of the polyimide and heated to remove solvent. Preferably the polyimide layer is aged by heating at 100-150‹C for 10-20 hours. The surface is cleaned by corona discharge and coated with selenium optionally including tellurium or sulphur, by vaccum deposition. The photo-conductive layer may be poly N-vinyl carbozole in a poly carbonate binder.
