Abstract

1337227 Electro-photographic plate XEROX CORP 24 Feb 1971 5285/71 Headings G2C C17C5, C17D1 and C17D2 An electro-photographic plate comprises a photo-conductive layer and a contacting layer of an electronically active organic material overlying the photo-conductive layer with the ratio of the thicknesses of the layers being 1 : 2 to 1 : 200, the photo-conductive layer being capable of photogenerating electrons and injecting them into the contacting layer, the contacting layer being capable of supporting the injection of the electrons and transporting the electrons through the organic material, the contacting layer being transparent and comprising at least one material selected from the group consisting of phthalic anhydride, tetrachlorophthalic anhydride, benzil, mellitic anhydride, s-tricyanobenzene, picryl chloride, 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene, 2,4-dinitrobromobenzene, 4 - nitrodiphenyl, 4, 4 - dinitrodiphenyl, 2,4,6- trinitroanisole, trichlorotrinitrobenzene, trinitro - o -toluene, 4,6-dichloro - 1,3 - dinitrobenzene, 4, 6-dibromo- 1, 3- dinitrobenzene, p - dinitrobenzene, chloranil, bromoanil, aromatic and heterocyclic organic materials having a nitro, sulphonate, carboxyl and/or cyano substituent, 2,4,7-trinitrofluorenone, 2,4,5,7-tetranitrofluorenone, trinitroanthracene, dinitroacridene, tetracyanopyrene, dinatroanthraquinone or polymers thereof. The plate may be self-supporting or be provided with a conductive or insulating substrate. In the specific embodiments an aluminium substrate coated with nylon is vacuum coated with Se or a solution of #-form metal-free phthalocyanine or copper phthalocyanine and the photo-conductive layer covered with an evaporated layer of 2, 4, 7-trinitro-9-fluorenone or dinitroacridine.
