Abstract

1337228 Electro-photographic element XEROX CORP 24 Feb 1971 5287/71 HeadingsG2C C17C5 C17D1 and C17D2 An imaging member comprises a layer of photo-conductive material and a contiguous layer of an electrically active organic material, the photo-conductive layer being capable of generating holes in excitation by actinic radiation and the active material being capable of supporting hole injection from the photo-conductive layer and transporting the holes. In the specific embodiments the member is provided with a support of aluminium optionally coated with a blocking layer of nylon or epoxy resin and the photo-conductive layer is formed by vapour deposition of Se, or coating with an organic solvent solution of polyvinyl carbazole and selenium, a quinacridone, a polynuclear aromatic quinone or X-form metal-free phthalocyanine. The layer of active material may be a coating of polyvinyl carbazole, polyvinyl pyrene, a pyreneformaldehyde condensation polymer or a polymer of pyrene and acrylic acid, or vacuum coating of pyrene, tetraphene, 1-acetylpyrene, 2, 3-benzochrysene, 6, 7-benzo-pyrene, 1-bromopyrene, carbazole, 1-ethylpyrene, 1-methylpyrene, perylene and 2-phenylindole. Many other suitable substrates, photo-conductors and active materials are specified.
